Our approach to the arts is deeply inspired and informed by the Reggio Emilia approach. We encourage and facilitate children’s creative expression and respect each of the “100 languages” they use to discover, understand and interact with the world.

The arts environments are thoughtfully designed so that materials, space and design help spark curiosity and guide experiences. Emphasis is placed on documenting and reflecting on each child’s unique learning process.

VISUAL ARTS

Our well-appointed art studio is located in the outdoor classroom, surrounded by trees, plants, birds and plentiful natural light. Children have daily opportunities to engage with a wide variety of high quality pastels, paints, tools, fabric and mark-makers. Natural clay for sculpting and a building & weaving area also compromise a daily available choice for children. In the art studio we explore the principles and elements of design while paintings, sculptures, collages and play props are ingeniously created.

MUSIC

Children explore the elements of music by playing and making a variety of musical instruments, both spontaneously and with guidance. Diverse cultural songs are taught to reflect and celebrate the diverse languages and cultures in our school and community. Songs and singing add cheer to our routine and take place throughout the day and help create a joyful, respectful and understanding school culture.
